“Hashers”! Your HashMaster is back. Enough of these town hashes and soft trails!
This trail is a 7.60km, circular route which passes from Gordon Town up to the small community of Penfield on quiet road. The Hope River valley is to our right, with steep, vertical cliffs to view. We then are ‘off road’, and on a very old pathway, hugging a ridge line, (in places) on the old route parochial footpath which once (still?) leads to Charlotteburgh Great house. A wonderful trail, which sits above the Flora river, which you hear and can catch glimpses of the river, far below and as we follow the trail and cross a very old stone bridge.
A steepish hill path climb (which leads away from the Charlotteburgh trail) leads back on the path to the community of Industry and return to Penfield and the Hope river again. (Which is still flowing and pools and small falls).
See also the major road works being undertaken on this narrow valley road, above Penfield, before this old route is fully transformed and altered beyond recognition.

Hash Directions
This is very straightforward. You travel to Gordon Town, which is about 15 minutes from Papine. Pass through Gordon Town square and the statue which stands in the square. Drive less than 1km, straight ahead and you will see a bridge crossing the Hope river. Cross the bridge and find a neat place to park. NB. Parking will be tight, so car share where can, and also park along the road, before the bridge if necessary.
Hash Extras
Hashers!. You do require a level of sure footedness and good walking fitness for this trail. It is uneven in places, steep in a short section, which requires a clamber up the path, (use of hands?!) as we ascend some 1100ft from our Circle, over 3km, before the we descend. This is not a flat, easy walk, and will take most at least two hours to complete. We start at 10.00am to avoid the summer heat!
