Event Description

“Hashers”!  This is a lovely trail which starts at Holywell Park, St Andrew.  We walk the quiet, north driving road downhill until we reach the Green Hills pass trail.  The views en route are quite wonderful, and if it’s clear you can see as far as Buff Bay and the coast, with valleys and hills all around.  Once on the Green Hills pass trail it is off road and further downhill.  Steepish in places.  A safe, farmers’ trail which takes us through woodland, bamboo coverings and coffee fields.  The trail leads on to another trail which goes downhill, again steepish, on a pathway to a tributary which feeds the Cascade Falls.  Then it is uphill and through the coffee slopes of the Olde Coffee estate building at Castle Dawson, and 1 km return back to Holywell.

Distance 6.5km.

Hash Directions

This is very straight forward.  Just drive up to Holywell Park, St Andrew.  For those who are new, or never visted this park, (why not?) it is as follows.

Leave Kingston via Papine and take the only and main driving road to Holywell. The location is signposted on Google maps.  The road is uphill all the way, and narrows as it gets further uphill.  You pass by Irish Town (and Cafe Blue) through Redlight and drive across the parade square at the Newcastle military camp.  From Newcastle it is a further 4km to Holywell.

NB.  The park charges $400 JMS per person for entry.

Once past the ticket booth turn immediate RIGHT and park in the large lower car park, which is a 100 meters further on.  Do NOT drive down to the gazebos at the far end! We are NOT there.

Hash Extras

Okay. Focus now. This is a lot more than the easy 3.5km of our last river Hash. This is 6.5 km. It is about 4 km downhill and 2km uphill. The path route is solid and manageable, but steep in places and on the side of a hill. NB. A reasonable level of walking fitness is required and stick will be beneficial for many!
